From the Principal
There is NO SCHOOL TOMORROW, MARCH 22nd for students! Teachers will be here working on a variety of learning activities. I love when we get to be the students and continue our passion for improving our student's achievement.
This week in the digital backpack you will find information regarding PTA Bingo Knight, Nanuet High School Fun Run/Walk is tomorrow morning, preschool information, counseling information from several sources and the Bucket Filler's Pledge.
Dr. Adam Pletter spoke on Thursday night to a nice size group of parents about how to parent in the digital age. His message focused on being able to have an open, honest conversation with your child, about setting limits and developing a contract you can all live with and how this will help keep them safe. Technology has so many benefits and will only continue to improve. It is a parent's responsibility to help their child navigate this digital world safely. It was very worrisome when he discussed how many of the games and apps are built to be addicting and draw children into the relentless frenzy of needing to play. His presentation video is available on the home page. Please take some time to watch.
Miller has been a busy place! Thank you to the PTA for the Improv 4 Kids assembly last week. Everyone enjoyed the music, dancing, and on the spot poems and theater they created. Our kindergarten has been to visit Martio's restaurant to learn about their community, 1st graders went to the Clarkstown Police station and 2nd grade finished up their tours of the recycling plant in Pomona. Keep your eyes out for a Save the Dates flyer that will come home next week giving you notice of many spring events for all grade levels.
Our word of the month for March is Determination. The definition we are using is wanting to do or achieve something. Determination can be a decision, or the focus you need to get something done. It goes along with a smaller, easier to read word for our little knights of GRIT. Grit is a combination of perseverance and resilience. We discussed this with the students during their assembly time this past week. Please review the information on growth mindset so you can learn how to help instill this important quality in your child.
Enjoy your day off and please remember to make READING a top priority!
Have a great weekend!
