From the Principal
Happy Valentine's Day! George Miller was a buzz of activity today. We celebrated the 100th day of school and the fact that our Knights are 100 days smarter! They counted by 5s, 10s, 20s, made collages, and built block and Lego structures. Kindergarten did a variety of activities for 100 seconds such as squats (each class took 10!), dancing, jumping jacks, and practiced being still for 100 seconds. We also participated in Rockland Read-In, kicked off yesterday by a visit from Supervisor Hoehmann. Mrs. Leahy and I had a great time visiting classes and reading books. Second graders went down to read with first grade and fourth graders came to read with kindergarten. We enjoyed a great sense of community.
Yesterday, each grade level celebrated our Full Bucket of Kindness with a dance party in the gym. Students had a blast showing off their dance moves.
Our word of the month for February is Patience.
Our teachers are working really hard to help your child/children learn to read. PLEASE carryover this learning at home on a daily basis. Research tells us that being read to at an early age is one of the best predictors of academic success. Just like any sport or instrument, in order to improve you need to practice. In order to read well, students need to practice reading everyday.
Have a great winter break and we will see you on Monday, February 24th. Please be cognizant of the number of absences your child has thus far this year.
